Madre Langa
“Madre Langa” è l’omaggio scelto a Bosia dal Premio Ancalau per ricordare una pagina decisiva della storia di queste colline: gli anni delle guerre mondiali e della guerra civile. Il volto del murale, dipinto da Silver Veglia, riprende quello della madre dei fratelli Lorenzo, Vincenzo e Giovanni Ambrogio, tre giovani partigiani caduti, e diventa il ritratto collettivo delle donne che hanno sostenuto famiglie e comunità nei decenni più duri.
In questa chiave si inserisce la frase di Nuto Revelli tratta da L’anello forte, la grande raccolta di voci femminili del mondo contadino del Cuneese, che dà dignità storica a ciò che spesso resta sullo sfondo: «Anche le donne hanno fatto la guerra». La scelta di questa citazione sposta il racconto dalla sola eroica contrapposizione alla memoria condivisa del dolore e della tenuta quotidiana, e punta a una riconciliazione che passa dal riconoscimento di chi ha pagato sempre, da una guerra all’altra.

The Ancalau Prize has chosen “Madre Langa” as its tribute to Bosia, commemorating a pivotal chapter in the history of these hills: the years of the world wars and the civil war. The face in the mural, painted by Silver Veglia, is modelled on that of the mother of three young partisans, Lorenzo, Vincenzo and Giovanni Ambrogio, who all fell in battle.
The mural thus becomes a collective portrait of the women who supported families and communities during the hardest decades. In this context, Nuto Revelli’s quote from L’anello forte — the great collection of women’s voices from the rural Cuneo area — takes on new meaning, lending historical dignity to those who often remain in the background: ‘Women too fought the war.’ This quotation shifts the narrative from mere heroic contrasts to a shared memory of pain and daily resilience, pointing towards a reconciliation stemming from recognising those who have always paid the price, from one war to the next.

Der Premio Ancalau in Bosia hat mit “Madre Langa” eine Hommage gewählt, um an ein entscheidendes Kapitel in der Geschichte dieser Hügel zu erinnern: die Jahre der Weltkriege und des Bürgerkriegs. Das auf dem Wandbild von Silver Veglia dargestellte Gesicht greift das der Mutter der drei gefallenen jungen Partisanen Lorenzo, Vincenzo und Giovanni Ambrogio auf und wird so zum kollektiven Porträt der Frauen, die in den härtesten Jahrzehnten ihre Familien und Gemeinschaften gestützt haben.
In diesem Zusammenhang fügt sich der Satz von Nuto Revelli aus L’anello forte, der großen Sammlung von Stimmen weiblicher Bewohnerinnen der bäuerlichen Welt der Region Cuneo, ein. Er verleiht dem, was oft im Hintergrund bleibt, historische Würde: “Auch die Frauen haben Krieg geführt.” Durch die Wahl dieses Zitats wird die Erzählung von der rein heroischen Gegenüberstellung wegbewegt und hin zur gemeinsamen Erinnerung an den Schmerz und das tägliche Durchhalten gelenkt. Le visage de la fresque, peinte par Silver Veglia, reprend celui de la mère des frères Ambrogio, trois jeunes partisans tombés au combat, et devient le portrait collectif des femmes qui ont soutenu leurs familles et leurs communautés durant les décennies les plus difficiles.
C’est dans cette optique que s’inscrit la phrase de Nuto Revelli tirée de L’Anello forte, un grand recueil de témoignages féminins du monde paysan de la région de Cuneo, qui confère une dignité historique à ce qui reste souvent en arrière-plan : « Les femmes aussi ont fait la guerre. » Ce choix déplace le récit de la seule opposition héroïque vers la mémoire partagée de la douleur et de la résistance quotidienne, et vise une réconciliation qui passe par la reconnaissance de celles qui ont toujours payé le prix fort, d’une guerre à l’autre.
