Don Giovanni Battista Gianolio, a priest of the Diocese of Alba, was a key figure in the social and educational development of the Alba area. He entered the seminary in 1937 and was ordained in 1949. He served as a curate in Alba, first at the Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian and then at the city Cathedral. While carrying out pastoral work in expanding factories in 1953, he developed the idea of technical training to provide young people with a future and skills for local businesses.

This led to the establishment of a vocational training centre which launched its first courses in 1958 in a complex built adjacent to the new Church of Christ the King. The centre would later become a regional centre of excellence, with Don Gianolio serving as director until 1990. From 1965 onwards, he focused on the San Cassiano district, serving as parish priest and promoting spaces for education, youth clubs, sports, and community life alongside the parish. In 1994, he was appointed Vicar General of the diocese during a period of renewal in relations with the laity and the integration of parish communities. Following his death, the city of Alba awarded him a gold medal posthumously and, in 2018, named a square in San Cassiano after him. This publicly commemorates his vision of linking school, work and community at the foot of the Langhe.

So entstand ein Berufsbildungszentrum, das 1958 die ersten Kurse in dem Komplex aufnahm, der im Umfeld der neuen Kirche Cristo Re errichtet worden war. Das Zentrum sollte später zu einer regionalen Referenz werden, mit Don Gianolio als Leiter bis 1990.

Ab 1965 konzentrierte sich sein Wirken auf das Viertel San Cassiano, wo er als Pfarrer tätig war und neben der Pfarrei Bildungsräume, ein Oratorium sowie Sport- und Begegnungsstätten förderte. 1994 wurde er zum Generalvikar der Diözese ernannt – in einer Phase der Erneuerung der Beziehung zu den Laien und der Integration der Pfarrgemeinden. Nach seinem Tod verlieh ihm die Stadt Alba posthum die Goldmedaille und benannte 2018 einen Platz in San Cassiano nach ihm, um öffentlich an seine Vision zu erinnern, die Schule, Arbeit und Gemeinschaft am Fuße der Langhe miteinander verband.

En 1953, alors qu’il exerçait son ministère auprès des travailleurs dans les usines en pleine expansion, il a mûri l’idée d’une formation technique capable d’offrir un avenir aux jeunes et des compétences aux entreprises locales.

C’est ainsi qu’est né un centre de formation professionnelle qui a lancé ses premiers cours en 1958 dans le complexe construit à proximité de la nouvelle église du Christ-Roi. Il est rapidement devenu une référence régionale, avec Don Gianolio comme directeur jusqu’en 1990. À partir de 1965, il s’est concentré sur le quartier de San Cassiano, où il a été curé et a promu, en parallèle à la paroisse, des espaces de formation, un oratoire, des activités sportives et de rencontre. En 1994, il a été nommé vicaire général du diocèse, à une période de renouveau des relations avec les laïcs et d’intégration des réalités paroissiales. Après sa mort, la ville d’Alba lui a décerné la médaille d’or « à titre posthume » et, en 2018, a donné son nom à une place de San Cassiano, rendant ainsi publiquement hommage à son intuition qui a su lier école, travail et communauté au pied des Langhe.
